Barcelona Soccer

Author: Kristy Annely

Barcelona, as a city, enjoys and promotes sports. Today, thanks in large part to the 1992 Olympic Games, a quarter of the city's population now regularly does some type of sport and has included physical exercise in their habitual activities. The people of Barcelona have seized the city's public spaces, squares, parks and new beaches, and turned them into focal points for sports activities. The City Council promotes and stimulates sport at all levels - from amateur to professional, from school to retirement, from 'fun runs' to summer activities by building and remodeling facilities, equipping districts and educational centers. Soccer is the favorite sport of Barcelona.

FC Barcelona is not only Barcelonas pride and joy, but also the favorite of soccer fans all over the world. Arguably the best football club in Spain, Bara is an incredible team. It has an impressive record, with the most wins of any team in the world. Also, it is the only team in Europe to have competed in the European Cup since the beginning of the tournament in 1955. Bara also boasts the most wins in the Copa del Rey, Spains own tournament.

The team colors of FC Barcelona are maroon, royal blue and gold. These are also the most popular colors in Barcelona. Fans outfit themselves from head to toe in Bara gear and personalize their mobile phones to ring the Bara hymn, update them with breaking team news and give them live game updates if they have to miss a match.

Barcelona is also home to not only one of the largest football museums in the world, but also the most visited museum in Catalonia. Knowing the names of every player on the team roster and wearing a jersey on game day (or every day!) are also ways in which one can quickly integrate into Barcelona culture.
