There are some scenic routes in the South for cyclists indeed and Alabama has quite a few of them. Alabama has it all. There are the beaches and ocean in Mobile, Gulf Shores and Daphne, AL that are simply breathtaking places to ride. Then there are all the rivers in Alabama to ride along, which can be a cyclists paradise as well. For instance; the Tombigbee and Alabama Rivers and the many highways, which intersect and run along them. The Tennessee River is also spectacular in the North Western side of the state and lets not forget the Chattahoochee River along the Eastern Border of Alabama and Georgia too. Tuscaloosa and Alexander City also have rivers and lakes and many water features worthy of recommendation for the novice or serious bicyclist. Cycling along these rivers, lakes and ocean areas is fun and exhilarating indeed and there as so many worthy routes to keep a cyclist busy for months planning day-long trips around the state or even touring all of them. Perhaps this is why cyclists continually rate Alabama so high on the list for cycling touring states?
