I love Google Desktop -- It keeps me organized (well, organized for me that is...). Go to Google and click on Desktop. It is a free program and will download easily. It will index your computer, so you can quickly find something that is lurking on your hard drive somewhere but you just can't remember where. It is much quicker for this, once it has been indexed, than the Search feature in Windows. But to me, the real beauty of Desktop is the Sidebar. If you have a small screen, you may not like this, but for a larger screen it is invaluable! For instance, on my sidebar I have at my fingertips: Date and Time Appointment Calendar RSS feeds that I have subscribed to eBay Watchlist (yes I admit I am addicted to eBay) Highlights of News Scratch Pad An everchanging slideshow of my pictures (this is really fun for me) Quick View -- this is just a list of my recent webpages I have visited Weather To Do List System Information Google Search Bar (this works for either the web or your computer) That's a lot, huh! But so neat to have it right at my fingertips. What is even nicer is that this sidebar is completely customizable to fit your needs. But one of the nicest things is the Notebook. This just sits on your lower toolbar as an option and works so nicely for capturing those spots you want to go back to in a minute... but you just need to finish something else you are doing. You know what I mean. There is this terrific site you ran across and you want to go back there, but by the time you finish what you first set out to do you have forgotten where that site was.. Sound familiar'? Well Notebook works like this -- you highlight on the page what you wanted -- you click on the Notebook icon and you click on Add Note. It immediately puts the link on your notebook and is there for you to click back on at your convenience. Nice tight program -- and for free you couldn't ask for more! |
