Which Online Business?

Author: Elizabeth Beecher

Check out some of the successful business models with which you are compatible:

1) If you find the right product to sell on eBay, you have a built-in audience of prospective customers.

2) For those who are artistic, an online business is an excellent way to sell your products. A woman friend who is a stay at home mom with three children under eight years old has an unusual skill that is very helpful to augment her husband's salary. She makes rosaries out of flowers from both weddings and funerals and is doing very well with her unique business.

3) Websites that do not sell products or services but instead provide information, which a large number of people are seeking, can earn a good income. If the site is well placed in the search engines, individuals or companies with compatible internet businesses might be interested in placing ads on your site for which they would, of course, be required to pay.

4) In addition to these ads, you can sign up with Google Adsense. The search engine will place ads on your website - either competitive or complementary depending on your wishes - from advertisers who pay them for this service. Based upon how many of your visitors click on the Google ads, you are paid according to the search engine's formula. I personally believe you should only allow complementary ads on your website as you might lose potential customers to the competition!

5) Another Internet business option for those who do not have their own products or services to sell is affiliate marketing. There are myriad companies offering a number of products and others that offer services that will pay you a commission on all customers that sign up with them through a link that you put on your website. You receive a percentage of all sales made and get a check from the company usually on a monthly basis after a minimum dollar amount is reached.

6) Some people have purchased products wholesale with the intention of reselling them from their home. A woman I met on a forum purchased used designer jeans with the hopes of building this into a profitable online business. However, this type of business requires you to stock the product somewhere in your home. She wound up keeping the garments in her living room and is having a hard time selling them. In my opinion, purchasing clothing for resale has too many negative business aspects to consider.

7) An easier way to resell is through dropshipping as you are not required to purchase anything upfront. You choose a company whose products you would like to sell and advertise those products on your website. For example, if the company sells a particular pair of jeans for $50, you can advertise it for $75. The customer pays you $75, you pay the company $50 and the company handles the shipping as if it were sent from you. The customer is never made aware of the third party involved. And best of all, you are not stuck with any unsold merchandise.

Regardless of the internet business you decide upon, you should become knowledgeable about search engine optimization. In order for your online business to be seen by potential customers, you must have a web presence and be listed on the search engines where you can readily be found by those seeking to buy what you are selling. There are a number of tutorials that will help you get started in this area.
