Abatement Progress Charting

Author: Lance Winslow

Often we have a problem in our civilization, which involves abatement procedures of a substance, pest, insect or challenge. The most important thing is to clearly define a timetable to set of goals to adequately chart the progress. Today with sophisticated sensors, ERSI 3D tracking and technological advances we can more easily monitor our progress to see if we are on track to accomplishing our objectives in the abatement process.

However, what I commonly see is that in many issues where it really matters we are not tracking such things; why? For instance after 911 there were issues with air quality and bad particles in the air and now 19,000 seem to have the 9-11 Death Cough and many have already died and 10s of thousands more are expected to die.

In New Orleans the Lake Pontchartrain is completely filled with really gross toxins and pollutions and it will take some time for the lake to fully recover in many areas where the lake does not circulate well. Meanwhile within the soup bowl itself free-standing water and swimming pools have huge amounts of biological bacteria breeding scum ponds and the Mosquitoes are having a field day.

Are things getting better or worse as Hurricane Season comes around again? You can see why it is essential to have abatement procedures carefully charted to insure forward progress and not back sliding or exacerbation of the problems. Consider this in 2006.
