lesson 4 - Beating The Competition part 1

Author: George Christodoulou
This is a very long lesson, so I spit it into 2 parts. Now that you have you're key words (at least 3-5). Make sure that they are less popular then you're general keyword and they have only been searched by a maximum of 1500 people. So now what? it's simple. Go to:
http://Google.com and type in you're first key word. First, look at the amount of searches
for that key word. Then look at the first website on the list.

The first thing you look at is the site on top. That is the site you want to beat. The best way to beat them is to copy every optimization tactic they did but just a little better. Even before you click on the link to the site, look at the url in green. If the url has a lot of slashes and looks like it is embedded in the site then you have a HUGE advantage because you can optimize the homepage of you're site. Okay now go in. The first thing you look at is the page rank. To view page rank you have to download the Google toolbar, which displays it. (You can find it on the bottom of google searches) If the PR of the site is higher then 5, then you are going to have some trouble beating it.

If the page rank is under 5 then you are okay. Remember how you archive a higher page rank? The more links to you're site the better you're page rank. later we will discuss how to increase the amount of links to you're site in more intimate detail. So now we know there PR, and we know that we just need to be one point higher to beat them in that area of optimization. The next thing you have to check is the code of the site. This can be done only with the internet explorer and fire fox browsers.

Go to the view section and scroll down to view source.
This will show the entire code of the page. This is the key to there onpage optimization". What we are looking for are the "meta tags" These are in the beginning of the code.
These will show us a lot. look for the "key words" meta tag.

Check if you're key word is there. If its not then you have just gained an advantage! You can place that word in you're "keyword" meta tags. I think that was enough for now. Please go over what I talked about and there will be more tomorrow.
