Wind and Solar Powered Car?

Author: Lance Winslow

Can we build a car which is wind powered with solar power backup to constantly charge the batteries? It is possible but as on member of a think tank and former engineer stated, the big issue is weight. We must keep any solar powered car totally lightweight for it to work.

Is the technology now advanced enough in solar cells and lightweight materials to make such a dream a reality? This is the question. Indeed, we must me do some research on this. I read somewhere recently of solar panel paint coatings and very thin 5 times more efficient solar panels. Although in the original concept we are looking for a Pure Bread Wind Powered Car.

Although it would seem the car would still be a semi-pure bread if it was indeed coated in light-weight solar cells like the MIT, University of Arizona and University of Tokyo are working. Also I understand Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and University of Delaware also.

We must do some follow up on some of these Science Tech articles recently, some are quite forward looking statements and very pre-discovery data, but I imagine there is something too this, as the push for solar powered or assisted robotics for planetary exploration are moving forward.

The cost is important too, and solar cells have come down in price. There is also a plastic solar cell I read about, could be a lot lighter, we could made the car out of that or out of composite remember the nose of the Long Eze homebuilt aircraft run instrument panel and charge battery on solar power? Consider all this in 2006.
